Hello, crafty friends! It has been four months since I have posted or been creating. I had an injury, then a death in the family. I'm so excited to be back today with a masculine card! I wanted this card to be a dramatic sunrise scene. With the darker colors, I feel that I achieved the look I was after. Follow along and I will show you how I made this.
I began with a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Cover Solar White 110 lb. cardstock. I taped off wher I wanted the horizon with Mint Tape. I ink blended dark turquoise and green inks for my water. The darker color suggests a deeper water as well as a darker lighting.
I moved the tape to the water side of the horizon and inked my "sunrise" in light yellows and blues. This is right before the sun pops up to brighten the day.
I used Spellbinders' Set Sail die set for all of the die cuts for my card. I started with the sailboat. I cut out all pieces with the same Neenah cardstock as before. I use 110lb. because it is heavier and holds it shape when cut, especially with small features like the sailboat has.
I inked the components of the boat with Distress Inks. I cut out a piece of black cardstock and adhered it behind the cabin piece window.
Assembled boat. I used Gina K Connect Glue in her fine tip glue bottle to adhere everything together. I love the billowing of the front sail; it gives the illusion of movement already!
These are the pieces of the wave included in the Set Sail die set. I inked them with Altenew Inks.
Assembled wave. I love how the angles, along with the whitecaps, strongly show movement of the water.
These diecuts are for the clouds, if you choose to use them in your scene. I used them for clouds and greenery on land. I love how detailed Spellbinders makes their dies! It makes everything look more realistic. For the clouds, I inked them in yellow and blue as a reflection of the sunrise. For the land, I used a dark, brown-green to show shadows.
I added the clouds and land pieces to my panel. The scene is really starting to take place. As you can see, the dark colors suggest shadows of a not quite light day.
I now added the wave and the sailboat, as well as trimmed off the excess clouds and greenery. I placed the sailboat at an angle to coincide with the "movement" of the wave.
Final card. I stamped and diecut the sentiment from Spellbinders' Fair Winds Sentiment Stamp and Die set. I trimmed the entire scene panel down a quarter of an inch and added to a top folding, white cardstock base. I love this card! I'm going to give it to my husband for Father's Day. If you have any questions about this card or how I created it, please don't hesitate to leave a comment.
